Optimise designs for poster print

Designing and uploading poster designs is easy if you pay attention to a few small things. We’ve put together all the important information and print templates for you to download here.

Available Formats

  • Portrait: 8" x 12", 16" x 24", 24" x 35"
  • Landscape: 12" x 8", 24" x 16", 36" x 24"
  • Square: 8" x 8", 16" x 16", 24" x 24"
  • Quality: semi-glossy picture printing, 250g/m²

Requirements for Your Design

Once you upload your design, posters are only available for print if the following requirements are met:

  • Portrait format (2:3), landscape format (3:2) or square (1:1)
  • Size: max. 100 megapixels
  • Resolution: at least 200dpi
  • Data formats: JPEG, PNG
  • Size limit: max. 100 MB
  • RGB or CMYK colour profile
  • Additional 0.06" (2mm) on all sides (addition of bleeds to avoid clipping)

Please also take note of our quality criteria for designs and especially the following points:

  • Everything should be razor-sharp
  • Contrast and brightness are optimally adjusted
  • No face are depicted as this may lead to a violation of personal rights

Templates to download

With our templates, you can easily prepare your design for poster printing. Each template contains

  • a layer to show you the correct size,
  • a red-marked margin of 0.06" (2mm) to indicate which area could be cut off.

Open the template with Photoshop or any graphics software suitable for .psd files. Then follow the checklist for poster printing (see below).

Format Europe North America*

*If you feel like selling posters on our North American domain, please use the templates marked North America. The sizes are adjusted to meet US standards (inch).

Checklist for Poster Printing

Drag your design into the file you opened and pay attention to the following:

  • Your design is in the "Your Design" folder
  • Your design fills the layer exactly (the edges disappear below the red line)
  • The red border doesn’t cover any important elements
  • The "Tutorial" layer is deactivated
  • The “Bleed allowance” layer is deactivated
  • RGB is selected as the colour profile

When you’re all set, save your design under "File > Save As" in .png format.

Upload poster designs

After you have optimized your file for poster printing, follow the usual process for creating products:

  • Upload your design in the Partner Area
  • Click on the design to select the desired product groups
  • With the right format, the product group "Posters" is already preselected for you
  • All other products are disabled seeing that poster designs don't necessarily look good on T-shirts, etc. You can, of course, reactivate it

If the product group "Posters" isn’t available to you in the product selection, your design doesn’t meet the requirements for poster printing. In this case, check the design requirements again and refer to our template for guidance.

Handling and packaging of posters

Express or premium delivery and gift-wrapping is unavailable for posters. Prints in the size of 20x20 and 20x30 will be dispatched in a solid envelope, sizes 40x60 and 60x90 are rolled in a cardboard box.
